Why I Don’t Call Venues By Their Corporate Name

This will ALWAYS be Great Woods.

You may have noticed on yesterday’s post that I listed all of the concerts that DDR will be attending this summer.  For some of you, the venue names I used might be confusing.  Great Woods?  Harbor Lights?  What are those places?  Well, we have some great venues here in the greater Boston area, and I have been going to shows since I was 14 and saw R.E.M. at Great Woods (aka Comcast Center).  You see, this will ALWAYS be Great Woods.  No crappy corporate company (and Comcast is most certainly crap) will ever in my eyes take the name of a venue here.  Same goes with Harbor Lights (aka Bank of America Pavilion) and The Wang Center (aka Citi Center), among others.  If I’m going to a beautiful venue on the water in South Boston, I don’t want to be thinking about banks.  Tough break that band as independent as Arcade Fire had to play the Bank of America Pavilion in order for fans in Boston to see them.  I guess that is just the nature of things today.  In my world though, they played Harbor Lights, and when we see Ed Vedder on Thursday, I’ll be headed to the Wang Center thank you very much.
